Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute Company Limited

The Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute Company Limited(ASTRI), acts as a "venture catalyst" bringing technology innovation to market, and stimulating the transformation of Hong Kong into a knowledge-based economy. ASTRI commenced its operations in 2001 with full financial support from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, and is governed by a Board of Directors comprising key representatives from the industry, as well as members from the academia and the Government.

ASTRI is a technology-driven company with four technology focus areas: IC designs, communications technologies, enterprise and consumer electronics, and material and packaging technologies. The Company aims to commercialise these technologies by transferring them to industry through licensing, joint ventures, and company spin-offs. Most of ASTRI's top management team members are industrialists and entrepreneurs who bring with them years of experience and successful track records in turning technological innovations into commercial products and services.

Hong Kong Jockey Club Institute of Chinese Medicine Limited

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Institute of Chinese Medicine Limited(HKJCICM) was set up to spearhead the development of Chinese medicine as a high value-added industry for Hong Kong through promotion and coordination of related activities and strategic support for scientific and evidence-based development programmes. It is established as a subsidiary of the publicly-funded Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute Co. Ltd.(ASTRI). It has received a pledged donation of HK$500 million (US$64 million) from the Hong Kong Jockey Club to support R&D projects and specific activities of the Institute.

Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation

The Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation offers infrastructural support to technology-based companies and activities. This statutory Corporation is formed by merging the former Hong Kong Industrial Estates Corporation, the Hong Kong Industrial Technology Centre Corporation and the Provisional Hong Kong Science Park Company Ltd. It has commenced operation with effect from 7 May 2001. It provides a one-stop service to industry, from nurturing technology start-ups through the incubation programme, providing premises and services in the Science Park for applied research and development activities, to offering land and premises in the industrial estates for production.

Hong Kong Productivity Council

The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) was established by statute in 1967 to promote increased productivity and the use of more efficient methods throughout Hong Kong's business sectors. With Centres of Excellence, testing laboratories, as well as exhibition and training facilities at its headquarters at the HKPC Building in Kowloon Tong, HKPC provides a diverse range of services in manufacturing technologies, management system, information technologies, and environmental technologies to clients from different industrial and commercial sectors.

Hong Kong R&D Centres

The Hong Kong R&D Centres have commenced operation in 2006 to undertake industry-oriented research in technologies demanded increasingly in the Pearl River Delta. These Centres also promote technology transfer to relevant industry sectors and facilitate commercialization of R&D deliverables. The focus technology areas of five R&D Centres are: Automotive parts and accessory systems; Information and communications technologies; Logistics and supply chain management enabling technologies; Nanotechnology and advanced materials; and Textiles and clothing.

Research Grants Council

The Research Grants Council(RGC) advises the Government, through the University Grants Committee , on the needs of tertiary institutions for academic research and the funding required, and monitors the use of public research grants. Vocational Training Council

The Vocational Training Council(VTC) is the biggest vocational education organisation in Hong Kong. It provides job-related training and education through its Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education(IVE), VTC School of Business and Information Systems (SBI) and its training and development centres. The main aim of the VTC is to provide and promote a cost-effective and comprehensive system of vocational education and training to meet the needs of the economy. It also operates the Engineering Graduate Training Scheme which provides practical training for engineering graduates and New Technology Training Scheme which assists companies in training staff in new technologies.
