Objectives:

  1. To provide opportunity for the younger generation to showcase their talent and develop their potentials in innovation, technology and design through the promotion of 3D animation technology.
  2. To enhance awareness in the community of the importance in creative education and creative industries.

 

Theme:

¡§Save Planet Earth¡¨

Our Planet Earth is calling for your help! Your participation is urgently needed to protect the environment and save our Earth. Use 3D animation to show us your ideas in visuals on how to make our Earth healthy and beautiful.

 

Divisions

There are three divisions: Primary Division, Secondary Division II (1 Minute Animation) and Secondary Division I (3 Minute Animation).

  1. For Primary Division, students (must be primary students at the time of submitting the entry form) compete on individual basis.
  2. For the two Secondary Divisions, students (must be secondary students at the time of submitting the entry form) compete on individual basis or in teams of 2 to 4 students. Students of the same team can come from different forms.
Note: Each participant / team must be led by a teacher. Each teacher may lead more than one participant / team but each participant can join one team only. Each participant / team can only submit one entry.

 

Requirements

  1. The entry must be composed with a 3D software. 3D software will be provided to the participants for free by Autodesk®, the official software provider, during the competition period.
  2. The entry must be composed with graphics. Subtitle cannot be included, graphics with text effects such as ¡§BANG!!!¡¨, ¡§Wow!!¡¨ are acceptable. No voice over dialogue is allowed.
  3. To ensure fairness, the identity of the school and the participants (e.g. insignia and name of school, name of participants, etc.) cannot be shown in any format in the entry.
  4. All entries must be original, have never been released and do not infringe any rights (including copyright) of others.
  5. The entry must not contain any objectionable, indecent or defamatory contents.

 

Specifications

Primary Division
(Primary 1-6)

  1. The entry should be submitted in .jpg format together with its source files.
  2. Compose animation files with 3D software. Then select one representative shot for printing with a resolution of no less than 1024 x 768 pixels with 300 dpi and save it in .jpg format.

Secondary Division II
(1 Minute Animation)

  1. The entry should be submitted in computer-playable animation files in .avi format together with its source files. The resolution of the images should be 720 x 576 pixels. The maximum duration of the animation is 1 minute at 25 fps with background sound effects.
  2. Then select five representative shots from the animation for printing with a resolution no less than 1024 x 768 pixels with 300 dpi and save them in .jpg format.

Secondary Division I
(3 Minute Animation)

  1. The entry should be submitted in computer-playable animation files in .avi format together with its source files. The resolution of the images should be 720 x 576 pixels. The minimum duration of the animation is 3 minutes (but should not exceed 4 minutes) at 25 fps with background sound effects.
  2. Then select five representative shots from the animation, for printing with a resolution no less than 1024 x 768 pixels with 300 dpi and save them in .jpg format.

 

Judging Criteria

Primary Division
(Primary 1-6)

  1. Content and creative concepts ¢w 30%
  2. Art and design (including the design of the objects and the use of colours, etc.) ¢w 30%
  3. Techniques (including the difficulty in composing the objects) ¢w 40%

Secondary Divisions
(1 Minute Animation and 3 Minute Animation)

  1. Content and creative concepts ¢w 30%
  2. Art and design (including the design of the objects, the use of colours, scenic design, camera skills, etc.) ¢w 30%
  3. Technique (including the difficulty in composing the 3D objects, the use of materials, animation techniques, background music / sound effect, etc.) ¢w 40%

 

Entry Procedures

  1. Interested parties should complete the Entry Form and return it to the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association Science Innovation Centre on or before 19 June 2009 (Friday) by mail (21 Hong Kin Road, Tui Min Hoi Area, Sai Kung), by fax: 2792 0286, or by email: 3dac@newgen.org.hk. Only completed Entry Forms will be accepted. Participants will receive an acknowledgement email, and be notified to attend various activities by email. No registration fee is required.
  2. The entry should be submitted together with its source files and must be stored in a DVD. The title and the file name of the entry must be clearly specified on the DVD.
  3. Deadline for submission of entries: 5:00 pm, 7 October 2009 (Wednesday)
  4. Venue for submission:

  5. Under no circumstance will the organisers be responsible for any damage or loss of the works and / or the videos submitted by the entrants.
  6. No entries will be returned. Participants should make copies of their own, if deemed necessary.

 

Prizes

There will be Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards for each division and the number of awards granted depends on the standard of entries. Winners will be awarded with trophies, certificates and prizes. Attractive prizes include computer products and science books.
