Infrared Ear Thermometer
The eardrum is close to and shares blood with the temperature control centre in the brain. The temperature of the eardrum reflects the core body temperature. Infrared ear thermometers measure the thermal energy radiated from the surface of the eardrum at wavelengths around 10 £gm. Infrared ear thermometers are calibrated by using blackbody radiators.
During normal use, the sensor of the infrared ear thermometer is covered with a lens filter. The thermometer will be calibrated with the lens filter put on. New and clean lens filter should be submitted with the thermometer.
