The Champion of Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2007, Steven Lau Tak-shing and Ivan Lau Tak-kin, both Form 3 students of Maryknoll Father's School, have yet another victory in the international arena, shortly after they won the championship in the International Category of National Danish Science Contest (Unge-Forskere) held in Denmark in early April. They won the Second Class Award in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) held in mid-May in Atlanta, Georgia with the '21st Century Miracle Lock'. Other than a cash award of US$ 1,500, they will have two asteroids named after them.
Intel ISEF is the world's largest annual international pre-college science competition, bringing together over 1,500 leading young scientists from more than 40 economies to showcase their scientific and innovative talent.
'I haven't decided on my next project yet but I am sure I will continue to work on science projects,' said Steven, who is the youngest ever kid to have an asteroid named after him.
Ivan said, 'We have attended many overseas competitions in the last year, which were all eye-opening experience.'
'I must thank ITC for organising the Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition, which has provided a good opportunity for Steven and Ivan to showcase their innovative talent, and the support they rendered afterwards,' said Ms To Yuen-man, the teacher who accompanied Steven and Ivan in the research, in negotiation with potential buyers of the patent and in all overseas competitions. |
