ITC's R&D Centres Harvest Awards at the 45th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva

In April 2017, three R&D centres from the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC), namely, The Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA), Nano and Advanced Materials Institute Limited (NAMI) and Hong Kong R&D Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management Enabling Technologies Limited (LSCM), were crowned with success at the 45th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva with a total of 20 awarded inventions, putting a spotlight on Hong Kong's rich harvest in applied research.

Young Scientist from Standards and Calibration Laboratory (SCL) Attached to the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) on Project of Voltage Comparison

The Standards and Calibration Laboratory (SCL) is piloting a key comparison of direct current (DC) voltage standards for the Gulf Association for Metrology (GULFMET) with the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) and the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) as members of the comparison support group. They will participate in the measurements to link the results to the main BIPM.EM-K11 key comparisons.

4 Champion Teams Stand Out in "Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2017" Final

On April 14 2017, four teams from Christian and Missionary Alliance Sun Kei Secondary School, Heep Yunn School and Hoi Ping Chamber of Commerce Secondary School, were selected as champions in the final round of the "Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2017" (HKSSPC). They received awards from Mr. Johann Wong, Deputy Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, and Mr. Kenneth Chen Wei-on, SBS, the Honorary Secretary of The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, at the award presentation ceremony.

Intel International Science and Engineering Fair 2017 to be held May 14 to 19 in Los Angeles

The world's largest international pre-college science competition, The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair 2017 (Intel ISEF), which is a program of Society for Science & the Public, will be held this year from May 14 to 19 in Los Angeles, United States.

"Camouflage" sensor monitors fruit cargo

Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (EMPA) developed an artificial fruit sensor which mimics the size, shape and composition of a real fruit. The sensor will be packed with other real fruit when transit and can be used for closely monitoring its temperature. The data from the sensor can be analysed quickly and easily on arrival at the destination. The quality can be guaranteed, in order to provide fresher fruit for consumers.
