In 2017 Policy Address with the theme of "We Connect for Hope and Happiness" announced by the Chief Executive Mrs Carrie Lam, new approaches and innovative measures were outlined to promote the development of innovation and technology on all fronts to bring new economic drive and to improve people’s daily lives.

Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition (HKSSPC) 2018 is now open for application. The briefing session was held at Hong Kong Science Museum on October 19 and the deadline for project nomination will be November 14. Carrying the theme "From Theory to Practice‧Develop Science Potential", HKSSPC 2018 is divided into Junior Division, Senior Division and Scientific Wallchart Division.

Standards and Calibration Laboratory (SCL) has developed a new system for line scale calibration. Line scales are generally made of glass and are accurately engraved with equidistant parallel lines on the surface. They are commonly used as reference standards to determine the distance and travel accuracy. Line scales are usually embedded in or equipped with measurement systems such as length comparators, microscopes and length measuring instruments.
