Five local R&D centres shine at SmartBiz Expo

To help five research and development (R&D) centres of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government promote their projects and explore business opportunities, an "Innovation and Technology Commission Pavilion" was set up by Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) at the first SmartBiz Expo held from December 6 to 8 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This ITC Pavilion marked the finale of "InnoTech Month 2017" starting from September 30.

Standards and Calibration Laboratory sets up new calibration services in luminance and optical wavelength

Standards and Calibration Laboratory (SCL) has developed new calibration services in luminance and optical wavelength, to support the testing and certification industry in Hong Kong. In November 2017, these two new calibration services were successfully assessed by the Hong Kong Accreditation Service (HKAS) with overseas peer reviewer Mr Huang Xue-bo, Principal Metrologist of the National Metrology Centre (NMC), Singapore.

New material transforms stress into electricity

Researchers from Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology have now proved that these properties can also exist in elastic materials and have developed a thin new material that can now turn stress into electricity.

  1. The "Innovation and Technology Scholarship Award Scheme 2018" is now open for nominations from local universities. Undergraduates under the disciplines of sciences, engineering, technology, medicine, health or other programmes related to innovation and technology, are welcomed to apply.
  2. The "Hong Kong ICT Awards 2018: Student Innovation Award", which is organised by the Hong Kong New Emerging Technology Education Association (HKNETEA), aims to enhance students’ creativity and innovation, and recognise young ICT talents for their outstanding efforts.
