2018-19 Budget further speeds up Hong Kong's I&T development

In the 2018-19 Budget announced on February 28, the Financial Secretary unprecedentedly allocated more than HK$50 billion along with a series of measures in infrastructure development, research and development (R&D) collaboration, nurturing start-ups and promoting industries, to keep up the support for innovation and technology (I&T) development, demonstrating the current-term government's commitment and determination in fostering I&T development in Hong Kong for the betterment of the community.

Standards and Calibration Laboratory sets up a programmable Josephson voltage standard for electrical measurements

A programmable Josephson voltage standard (PJVS) was set up at the Standards and Calibration Laboratory (SCL) in March 2018. The PJVS is an intrinsic standard for direct current (DC) voltage which was developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) of the United States.

Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2018
Initial Judging cum Project Exhibition

The Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition (HKSSPC) 2018 Initial Judging cum Project Exhibition was successfully held on March 10 at Hong Kong Science Park. The competition is jointly organised by The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, the Education Bureau and the Hong Kong Science Museum, and supported by the Innovation and Technology Commission and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation.

The Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) and the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) signed an agreement on March 2 to set up a joint innovation laboratory to pursue cutting-edge and interdisciplinary research for overall smart city development.

  1. The 46th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva will showcase over a thousand inventions and achievements in relation to healthcare, medicine, environment and security, with participation of 725 exhibitors from 40 countries and regions. The exhibition will take place from April 11 to 15, 2018 in Geneva, Switzerland. Click here for more details.
  2. The Midstream Research Programme for Universities (MRP) of the Innovation and Technology Fund (ITF) encourages universities funded by the University Grants Committee to conduct more theme-based midstream researches in focused technology areas for further downstream research work or product development.
