Calibration Services

Electrical: Calibrator

General

The Direct Current Laboratory of SCL can provide calibration services for the DC voltage, AC voltage, DC current, AC current and resistance output functions of multi-function calibrators. Upon user's request, other auxiliary output functions, such as DC power, AC power, phase angle difference and frequency may also be calibrated.

DC Voltage Calibrators

DC Voltage and Resistance Calibrator DC Voltage and Resistance Calibrator

DC voltage calibrators with ranges from 100 µV to 1 kV can be calibrated. The basic measurements will include measurement of output voltage at full range settings for each range, and linearity check at 5 voltage levels for one range. Linearity check for other ranges can be offered at extra charge.

DC Current Calibrators

DC Current Calibrator DC Current Calibrator

DC current calibrators with ranges from 1 µA to 100 A can be calibrated. The calibration is usually made at full range setting for each range. Calibration at additional test points can be offered at extra charge.

AC Voltage Calibrators

Voltage Standards Voltage Standards

The method used for calibrating AC voltage calibrators will depend on the required accuracy and bandwidth of the unit under test.

For highest accuracy, the calibrator will be calibrated using AC-DC transfer technique. In general, measurements will be restricted to the 0.25 V to 1 kV range, and frequencies 40 Hz to 1 MHz.

The calibration of a precision AC voltage calibrator will basically include:

  1. Measurement of output voltage at full range for each range, at one frequency.
  2. Linearity check at 5 voltage levels on one range at the same frequency as in (a).

Additional voltage measurement at other frequency settings as well as frequency accuracy check may be offered at extra charge.

AC Current Calibrators

The Laboratory offers calibrations for AC current calibrators or transconductance amplifiers with output in the range 100 µA to 20 A and 20 Hz to 20 kHz. At power frequencies (45 Hz to 60 Hz), the measuring range can be extended to 100 A. However, the calibrator under test must be capable of driving inductive loads as precision current transformers will be used for the measurements in this extended range.

DC Resistance Calibrators

DC resistance calibrators with ranges from 1 Ω to 1 GΩ can be calibrated. The basic measurements will include measurement of DC resistance at full range settings for each range and linearity check for selected range at the request of the customer.
