Luminous Intensity of Standard Light Source

Setting up the Standard Light Source Setting up the Standard Light Source

Luminous intensity is the luminous flux from a source emitted per unit solid angle in a given direction. The unit of luminous intensity is the candela (cd).

SCL can provide calibration services for luminous intensity of tungsten standard lamp or standard light source at correlated color temperature of 2856 K. Measurement range is from 35 cd to 3500 cd with calibration and measurement capability (CMC) of 1.5%.

The calibration system comprises of a 6 m photometric optical bench, a reference photometer, a reference colorimeter and a precision distance measurement system.

Luminous flux is the total light output from a light source, which is weighted by the visual sensation of a normal human observer. Its unit is the lumen (lm). At SCL, the calibration is performed inside a 1.65-m diameter integrating sphere with high diffuse and spectral flat reflective coating. The luminous flux is calibrated by comparing the optical radiation signal of the light source under test against the laboratory's reference sources. The calibration range covers from 20 lm to 10,000 lm. Both tungsten lamps and LED lamps can be calibrated by this system.
