Low Temperature Calibration at about -196°C

Nitrogen Boiling Point Apparatus Nitrogen Boiling Point Apparatus

Digital thermometers can be calibrated by comparison with standard platinum resistance thermometer (SPRT) in comparison bath. For calibration at about -196°C, a nitrogen boiling point apparatus is used as the comparison bath. The nitrogen boiling point apparatus consists of a dewar flask with a copper block immersed in it. The dewar flask is filled with liquid nitrogen to cool the copper block to about -196°C.

If the diameter of the probe exceeds 7.5mm, or if the probe is bent or of irregular shape, or if the length of the probe (excluding handle) is less than 35 cm, there could be difficulty in providing the calibration. In such cases, please discuss with SCL the feasibility of the calibration.

On-site Temperature Calibration Services

Many large machineries or equipment have built-in temperature measuring instruments. These temperature measuring instruments usually consist of temperature indicators and temperature sensor probes integrated into the machineries or equipment and become part of the whole system. It would be difficult or even impossible to separate them from the system for periodic calibration. These temperature measuring instruments need to be calibrated on-site.

On-site calibration services for digital thermometer / temperature indicator in the range -30°C to 650°C is available.

Temperature Chambers

The performance of a temperature chamber can be calibrated in accordance with the International Standard IEC 60068-3-5 in respect of the following:

  1. The accuracy of the set point of a chamber.
  2. The temperature stability of the chamber (the temperature fluctuation with respect to time)
  3. The temperature uniformity of the chamber (the spatial variation of temperature within the chamber)

The measurement range is from -80°C to 300°C. On-site service is available.

Thermocouple Simulator

Thermocouple simulators generate electrical voltages corresponding to the thermal emf of a specific type of thermocouple at specific temperatures. Thermocouple simulators are used to verify the accuracy of temperature indicators.

Thermocouple simulators are calibrated by measuring their output voltages and by comparing the measured voltages against the standard thermocouple output voltage tables published in EN 60584-1.

Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) Simulator

Resistance temperature detector (RTD) simulators generate the corresponding resistance values of a specific type of RTD at specific temperatures. RTD simulators are used to verify the accuracy of temperature indicators.

RTD simulators are calibrated by measuring their output resistances and by comparing the measured resistances against the standard RTD output resistance tables published in IEC 60751:2008.
