Calibration Service for Alternating Current High Voltage Sources/Meters at the HKSARG Standards and Calibration Laboratory (SCL)

The HKSARG Standards and Calibration Laboratory (SCL) offers service for calibrating Alternating Current (AC) High Voltage (HV) sources and meters up to 44 kV at 50 Hz. The SCL AC HV sources and meters calibration system comprises reference potential transformers (PTs), high precision digital voltmeters (DMMs), load burdens and AC HV sources as essential equipment. This calibration service has been accredited by the Hong Kong Accreditation Service (HKAS) for uncertainty within 100 parts per million (ppm).

AC HV sources and meters are commonly used in the testing and troubleshooting of electric power distribution systems, isolation systems, electrostatic discharge systems, etc. For calibration of an AC HV source, the unknown voltage is applied to the primary terminals of the reference PT. A set of load burden and a precision DMM are connected to the secondary terminals of the PT. Measurement results are determined by multiplying the DMM readings by the scaling factors of the calibration system. For calibration of an AC HV meter, a calibration set up similar to the above is used. The meter under test is connected in parallel with the AC HV source at the primary terminals of the reference PT. Measurement results are determined by comparing the readings of the test meter against the laboratory’s AC HV reference values.
