The 15th International ICT Expo, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), was held from April 13 to 16 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Under the theme "Smart City: The Way of the Future”, the four-day Expo attracted more than 30,000 visitors and over 600 exhibitors, including three research and development (R&D) centres of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government. Automotive Parts and Accessory Systems R&D Centre (APAS), Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) and Hong Kong R&D Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management Enabling Technologies (LSCM) showcased their latest technologies and R&D projects in the Smart City zone of the Expo.

Aligned with the Expo’s theme this year, APAS presented a series of innovative projects, such as the “Portable Charger Kit”, “16-tonne Pure Electric Truck”, “Smart Street Lamp” and “Smart Mobile EV Charger” etc., with an aim of making Hong Kong a Smart City by applying some new technologies.

In addition, ASTRI presented its R&D innovations in Smart City development under three aspects: Smart Economy, Smart Mobility and Smart Living. Their innovations included the “Application of Blockchain Technology for the Financial Services Sector”, “Palm Fusion Biometric Authentication System”, “Smart Traffic Management Platform” and “Naked-eye 3D Video Display and Real-time 3D Conversion Technologies”.

Visitors were also attracted to the LSCM exhibits and showed strong interest in the advanced technologies, including “Follow-Me Robots and Platooning Technology”, “Robotic Effector System for Label Affixing”, “Ultra-wideband Technology for Logistics Applications” and “RFID Blind Cane System”, which have created a profound and positive impact on the Smart City development.
