The Standards and Calibration Laboratory (SCL) becomes observer in two Consultative Committees of the International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM)
In its 105th meeting held in October 2016, the International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM) accepted the SCL's observer status of the Consultative Committee for Electromagnetism (CCEM) and the Consultative Committee for the Photometry and Radiometry (CCPR). Consultative Committees (CCs) are set up by the CIPM to bring together the world's renowned experts and scientists from top national metrology institutes (NMIs), to advise the CIPM on scientific and technical matters related to the respective fields in metrology.

In becoming an observer of the CCEM and CCPR, the SCL has demonstrated its competence in these fields. Through participation in CCs and their working groups, the SCL can engage in the latest research and development in advanced metrology, exchange information and explore collaboration with other NMIs. The SCL, being part of Hong Kong's quality infrastructure, provides measurement traceability to the testing and certification (T&C) industry in Hong Kong. The strengthened ties with the international metrology community will allow the SCL to strike a chord with the latest developments in measurement technologies and hence benefit Hong Kong's T&C industry.
