ASTRI partners with HKSTP and Molecular Hub to launch a Blockchain Accelerator Programme
The Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) is partnering with the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) and Mhub Blockchain Limited (Molecular Hub), to launch a Blockchain-focused accelerator programme for start-ups. The programme was launched on July 13, 2018, at the APAC Blockchain Innotech Summit held at Hong Kong Science Park.

ASTRI, a key partner in the programme, will build and enhance the technological know-how and capabilities of the participating start-ups, providing them with Blockchain-related training. The start-ups will also be able to leverage on ASTRI’s R&D infrastructure by accessing the facilities of the Smart City Innovation Centre operated by ASTRI.

Dr David Chung Wai-keung, the Under Secretary for Innovation and Technology, was one of the officiating guests at the programme’s launch, and he highlighted the Government’s support for I&T development in various areas, with particular emphasis on financial technologies (FinTech), artificial intelligence and robotics, as well as healthcare technologies.

As the largest government-funded applied R&D institute in Hong Kong, ASTRI possesses a strong track record of commercialising innovative technological solutions. Dr MeiKei Ieong, ASTRI’s Chief Technology Officer, underlined ASTRI’s anticipation for supporting start-ups and accelerating I&T development with HKSTP and Molecular Hub.

The APAC Blockchain Innotech Summit gathered top-notch Blockchain professionals, investors, entrepreneurs and service providers to explore and discuss the strategic role of Hong Kong in attracting Blockchain companies. The event also aims to foster the development of Blockchain technology and implementation in the Greater Bay Area and the countries along the Belt and Road.
