Two outstanding teams from Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition (HKSSPC) 2017 achieved remarkable results at the 10th Annual International Sustainable World (Energy, Engineering & Environment) Project Olympiad (I-SWEEEP) held from May 3 to 8 in Houston, USA.

The teams "Sign-translate Gloves", from Christian & Missionary Alliance Sun Kei Secondary School, and "Pico Rain Power" and "Investigating the Use of Photo-catalysts in the Production of Hydrogen from Photo-fermentation of Coal by Green Algae", from Carmel Pak U Secondary School, were selected to participate. After judges' evaluation, "Sign-translate Gloves" won the Bronze Award in the engineering category, while "Investigating the Use of Photo-catalysts in the Production of Hydrogen from Photo-fermentation of Coal by Green Algae" won the Honourable Mention in the energy category.

Christian & Missionary Alliance Sun Kei Secondary School students demonstrated their "Sign-translate Gloves" to the public at the competition. The main function of this invention is to transform sign language into computer data and translate it. "It is my first time and my great pleasure to be a standard-bearer in a team representing Hong Kong. My team and I were so glad to have this chance to participate and learn from the others from different countries," said Ng Chak-Lam, who, with his teammates, represented Christian & Missionary Alliance Sun Kei Secondary School.

I-SWEEEP was launched 10 years ago with the aim of sparking interest among young innovators to explore solutions for our sustainability challenges. The mission of this competition is to inspire students to preserve Earth's resources and ensure a sustainable planet for everyone.
