Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) held a soft launch ceremony for the trial run of the Smart City Innovation Centre (SCIC) at the ground floor of Photonics Centre in Hong Kong Science Park on July 27. Co-developed by ASTRI and HKSTP with financial support by the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC), SCIC is a cutting-edge infrastructure to facilitate R&D and innovation for smart city solutions. After a provisional test-run period, the Centre will be formally launched to the public in the near future.

Mr. Wong Ming-yam, Chairman of ASTRI Board of Directors, Mr. Albert Wong Hak-keung, Chief Executive Officer of HKSTP, officials from ITC and business partner organisations attended the ceremony. The guests enjoyed an exclusive tour in the Center to learn about the R&D focus areas and the wide range of Smart City applications in its facilities.

The Smart City Innovation Centre will serve as a common platform for R&D professionals, technology companies, business enterprises, start-ups and public service providers to develop innovative solutions using Internet of Things and other Information and Communication Technologies. With the modern infrastructure and facilities in the Centre, from FinTech to 5G, smart governance to smart living, and connected cars to citizen services, the Centre will help Hong Kong to gear up for a new era of economic and technological transformation.
