HKRITA demonstrates technologies for healthy ageing
The Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA) held a Technology Exhibition at TKO Plaza from January 5 to 21, 2018. Dr David Chung, Under Secretary for Innovation and Technology was invited to be the officiating guest at the kick-off ceremony.

The elderly population is expected to grow in Hong Kong. From figures released by the Census and Statistics Department in September 2017, the number of people aged 65 onwards is expected to more than double in the coming 20 years. For this reason, HKRITA is dedicated to improving the daily lives of the elderly with innovative technologies. The exhibition showcased nine different types of technologies related to healthcare for the silver age, including a Multi-functional (Water-, Oil-, Soil- and Wrinkle-resistant) Apron, Self-cleaning Treatment for Fabrics, an Innovative Spinning System for Chitosan Yarn, Fine Worsted Yak Yarns and Fabrics, an Anti-strip Jumper, Thermal Conductive Textiles, a High-performance Wheelchair Cushion, Bio-functional Socks and Wearable Electronics for Better Quality Community Care of the Elderly.

"Technological advancement shapes the course of society's development. Improving the well-being of the elderly is one of our key research directions. The innovations showcased here are meant to give a better quality of life to our older citizens," said Mr Edwin Keh, Chief Executive Officer of HKRITA.
