Collaborate, Complement, Co-create: Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Forum 2017
Jointly organised by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and the Innovation and Technology Bureau, the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Forum 2017 was successfully held on September 25 in Hong Kong Science Park. The Forum aims to promote the development of innovation and technology in the Mainland and Hong Kong through facilitating complementary innovative edges and deeper integration of resources between the two places. The 20th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR brought a special meaning to the theme of the Forum, “Collaborate, Complement, Co-create”.

With over 300 attendants, the Forum is comprised of two major sections, namely the opening ceremony cum keynote session in the morning and the concurrent panel sessions in the afternoon. Mr Matthew Cheung, Acting Chief Executive, HKSAR Government and Prof Huang Wei, Vice Minister of MOST, officiated the opening ceremony and delivered opening speeches. A luncheon, co-hosted by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, with the theme of "Promoting High-impact R&D Collaboration and Fostering Innovation and Entrepreneurship for the Benefit of the Society" was arranged.

The afternoon comprised two concurrent panel sessions, one on "Collaborative Innovation under the National Technology Policies and the 'Belt and Road' Initiatives", and the other on "Development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area and the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park". Speakers on these topics shared insightful views, including how Hong Kong's experiences and advantages of leveraging on innovation as a driving force in the city, could help seize the opportunities presented in the 'Belt and Road' initiatives, further facilitating sustainable development of the economy. Interactive discussions between speakers and participants in the two panel sessions fostered closer ties and greater co-operation between the Mainland and Hong Kong.
