Hong Kong hosts the 2018 APMP mid-year meeting and
MEDEA Workshop for the first time
The Standards and Calibration Laboratory (SCL) together with the Government Laboratory hosted the 2018 Asia Pacific Metrology Programme (APMP) mid-year meeting and the "Metrology - Enabling Developing Economies in the Asia-Pacific” (MEDEA) Workshop from July 3 to 6, 2018 in Hong Kong for the first time. The APMP is a group of national metrology institutes in the Asia-Pacific region engaged in improving regional metrological capability through sharing of expertise and exchange of technical services among member laboratories. APMP is also a Regional Metrology Organisation (RMO) recognised by the International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM) for the purpose of worldwide mutual recognition of measurement standards and of calibration and measurement certificates.

The APMP holds mid-year meetings to follow up the matters discussed in its annual meetings. This year, the mid-year meeting was attended by APMP personnel, including the Executive Committee (EC) members, Technical Committee (TC) chairs, Focus Group chairs and the Developing Economies Committee (DEC) members. The MEDEA Workshop was organised and funded by Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) of Germany with the APMP as an implementing partner. The objectives of the workshop are to support the developing economies in the region in setting up their metrological competence and to contribute to regional harmonisation and integration.
