2017 Policy Address Outlines Plans to Drive Local I&T Development
In 2017 Policy Address with the theme of "We Connect for Hope and Happiness" announced by the Chief Executive Mrs Carrie Lam, new approaches and innovative measures were outlined to promote the development of innovation and technology on all fronts to bring new economic drive and to improve people’s daily life.

Key measures include no less than HK$10 billion as university research funding to encourage private companies to increase investment in R&D, the kick-start of a HK$500 million "Technology Talent Scheme" to train and pool technology talents, the injection of HK$3 billion into the Research Endowment Fund for local students, and the collaboration with Shenzhen in the development of "Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park" at the Lok Ma Chau Loop as the international IT hub in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area.

To further foster the innovation and technology development in Hong Kong, the Government will also invest HK$700 million to take forward key infrastructure projects for Smart City development to provide an "eID" for all Hong Kong residents, reform the development technology of e-Government and establish a big data analytics platform.

Upcoming I&T Event
  1. Organised by the Innovation and Technology Commission, the InnoTech Month 2017 roadshows will be held in November, one at Olympian City 1 in Tai Kok Tsui from November 11 to 12 and another at Kai Tin Shopping Centre in Lam Tin from November 18 to 19. In addition to different "InnoTech Workshop" offered to the public, the roadshows will display innovations from young scientists. Click here for more details.
  2. China Hi-Tech Fair 2017 will be held from November 16 to 21 at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Centre. The Innovation and Technology Commission and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council will co-organise the Hong Kong Pavilion to showcase Hong Kong's achievements in I&T and enhance technological exchange and business collaboration among enterprises in Hong Kong, the Mainland and other regions.
