New video showcases projects of ITC's five R&D centres
The Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) has launched a new video to showcase outstanding projects of its five research and development (R&D) centres.

The video introduces innovative projects developed by each of the five R&D centres. The projects include the handy “Portable EV Charger Kit” co-developed by the Automotive Parts and Accessory Systems R&D Centre (APAS) and a startup company to address the issue of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in short supply in Hong Kong. The “3D Random Bin Picking Technology for Industrial Robot”, developed by the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI), makes use of high-speed and highly-accurate 3D sensing capabilities of robotics technologies to play a more instrumental role in the manufacturing process. The “High-performance Wheelchair Cushion” developed by the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA) for Hong Kong’s boccia team, and tailored for athletes’ particular needs, helps reduce pressure on athletes’ lower body and provide sufficient support. The “Baggage Trolley Availability Monitoring and Management System” jointly developed by the Logistics and Supply Chain MultiTech R&D Centre (LSCM) and the Chinese University of Hong Kong can instantly calculate the number of trolleys available through video imagery by adopting artificial intelligence technologies, to help reduce the patrol frequency of the airport frontline staff; and the Nano and Advanced Materials Institute (NAMI)’s “High Oxygen-carrying Nano Bubble Technology” can generate nano bubbles which help shorten the time required for sprouting of hydroponic plants and enhance the germination rate.

The intelligent wearable exoskeleton developed by the Chinese technology company Fourier Intelligence ignites hope for the disabled. This powered lower-limb exoskeleton, Fourier X1, is sculpted from aluminium and carbon fibre reinforced plastic, making the exoskeleton light and wearable. High performance battery-powered motors are used to actuate the hips and knees, enabling the disabled or paraplegics to stand up and walk.
