Young Scientist from Standards and Calibration Laboratory (SCL) Attached to the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) on Project of Voltage Comparison
The Standards and Calibration Laboratory (SCL) is piloting a key comparison of direct current (DC) voltage standards for the Gulf Association for Metrology (GULFMET) with the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) and the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) as members of the comparison support group. They will participate in the measurements to link the results to the main BIPM.EM-K11 key comparisons.

The BIPM is an international metrology institute and operates under the General Conference on Weights and Measures (CGPM), which is an intergovernmental treaty organisation, created by the Metre Convention. The BIPM plays a unique role in ensuring and promoting the global comparability of measurements to facilitate international trade and sustain both quality of life and the global environment. GULFMET is a newly established regional metrology organisation (RMO) for countries and economies in the Gulf region.

To prepare for this comparison, a young scientist of the SCL, Dr. Steven Yang attached to the BIPM from January to March 2017 to work and share experience on the calibration of Zener voltage standards using Josephson voltage standards. The knowledge and experience acquired from the attachment opportunity with world renowned scientists and the advanced BIPM facility helps the SCL engage with the latest research and development in advanced metrology. Besides piloting the key comparison of DC voltage for GULFMET, the SCL is also a support member of a supplementary comparison of DC resistance for GULFMET.
