ITC Showcases the Excellence of its R&D Centres in New Video Series

The Innovation and Technology Commission has launched a new video series to showcase the outstanding projects of its five local R&D Centres, namely, the Automotive Parts and Accessory Systems R&D Centre (APAS), the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI), the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA), the Hong Kong R&D Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management Enabling Technologies (LSCM) and the Nano and Advanced Materials Institute Limited (NAMI). These five R&D Centres drive and coordinate applied research and development in selected focus areas and promote the commercialisation of their R&D results, thereby improving our quality of life in many ways.

Staff of the SCL Presented a Paper on Optical Measurements at the 13th NEWRAD Conference

Ms Brenda Lam, Senior Electronics Engineer of the Standards and Calibration Laboratory (SCL) presented a paper on optical measurements at the 13th International Conference on New Developments and Applications in Optical Radiometry (NEWRAD 2017) in June 2017. The NEWRAD Conference is a prestigious conference focusing on the latest development and measurement techniques in photometry and radiometry.

NAMI Displays Its Technological Achievements in Showcase 2017

Organised by the Nano and Advanced Materials Institute (NAMI), NAMI Showcase 2017 successfully concluded its 5-day event, from June 5 to 9 at the Hong Kong Science Park. The Showcase demonstrated its awarded technologies of the 45th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva and a wide spectrum of innovative technological outcomes to the public.

The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) launched the "Hong Kong Secondary Schools 3D Printing Design Competition", aiming to promote the innovative use of 3D printing and encourage creative enterprise among the younger generation, whilst commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Travel Hands-Free with MIT’s New Self-Driving Wheelchair

Many people have heard of autonomous cars, but what about self-driving wheelchairs? The self-driving wheelchair is the latest invention of the Computer Science Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL) of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT). The invention integrates LIDAR (light detection and ranging) scanners and 3D mapping technology, allowing those with special needs and mobility issues to travel with ease.

Upcoming I&T Event  


The 50th Joint School Science Exhibition (JSSE) will be held from August 23 to 28, 2017, aiming to nurture local science talents, arouse public interest in science and foster the exchange of knowledge. The Committee is going to hold Float Tours on July 30, August 2 and 6 at Olympian City, Fortune REIT and Citywalk respectively where the public can go to catch a glimpse of the JSSEPC.
